Real-Life Fairytale

The Hudson Valley and surrounding areas are saturated with an array of accommodations that give their guests a truly magical experience. Here are some hotels and vacation rentals to turn your visit to the region into a real-life fairytale, from a treehouse to a lighthouse and many fanciful spots in-between.

New Restaurant Openings

Despite the economic setback that COVID dealt the restaurant industry, many intrepid food entrepreneurs are opening new eateries to serve a hungry public. We visit Dixon Roadside, City Winery, Ollie’s Pizza, Lunch Nightly, Tortilla Taco Bar, and more.

Hudson Valley Art Bucket List

The Hudson Valley connects is a place that connects the first art movement in the United States—the Hudson River School of Painting—with the work of renowned contemporary artists who live here, like Kiki Smith, and the world-class venues that showcase their work, like Storm King Art Center. We’ve compiled a list of the works that any art lover visiting the region shouldn’t miss out on.

The New General Store

There’s a long list of things that independent shops can offer that box store retailers cannot, from local product selection to individualized service. In communities around the Hudson Valley and beyond, this has led to the revitalization of small business culture and the shop local movement. And with this tide has come the reinvention of the general store, that classic, old-school, small-town one-stop-shop, peddling a wide range of items from foodstuffs to hammers and nails, kitchenware to apparel.

A Beer and a Hike

There’s no beer quite as tasty as the beer at the end of a glorious day outdoors. And nothing makes a hike quite so perfect as having the perfect spot for that beer all figured out. We’ve paired some of the Hudson Valley’s best hiking options with wonderful places to find that post-hike beverage. For instance, try hiking up to Skytop Tower at Mohonk followed by a refreshing quaff afterward at Gilded Otter in New Paltz.

Plus

Guides to the towns of Rhinebeck and Catskill, where to frolic with fluffy alpacas, a history of the bridges of the Hudson Valley, and a tour of regional farm breweries.
